P.N. #99483-90 When truing the flywheels, the number of blows required and how hard they should be struck depends on how far shafts are out of true and how tight nuts are drawn. Always remove the flywheels from the stand and strike the flywheels rim only at 90° to the crank pin. Use only a soft metal mallet. Never strike wheels while in truing stand. This could result in a broken pinion shaft. HELPFUL HINT End play specifications for main bearing end play are as follows: Set up @ Service wear limit Sportster .001 .007 Shovelhead .001 .004 Evolution .0005 to .001 not to exceed .006 A safe setting for any Timken® engine main bearing is .001. Service wear limits listed should only be used as absolute maximum allowable and can vary with different engine builders. CONNECTING RODS AND PARTS FOR K MODEL, SPORTSTER & 45CI CONNECTING ROD ASSEMBLY These Connecting Rod Assemblies include rods, crank pin, crank pin nuts, piston pin bushings and rod rollers with aluminum retainers. Everything fitted with standard size rollers ready to install. S&S Heavy Duty connecting rods are recommened for stock rebuilds and high performance street engines. The upper rod area where the rod beam meets the wrist pin boss is blended together with a large, smooth radius that evenly distributes the stress load on the rod, and the small ends of the rods are fully machined. This makes for a great looking set of rods, and increases strength by maintaining a uniform material thickness around the wrist pin. The machining process also keeps the difference between the small end weights of each rod to a minimum - allowing for the closest possible balancing job and a smoother running engine. * All Shovelhead, Panhead and Knucklehead engines use .791” wrist pins (1936/1984). ** All pistons for Big Twin 1984/1999 engines use .792” wrist pins.
